The first crash took place around 7:39 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 6, when a 2005 Hyundai traveling northbound on the parkway in Putnam Valley lost control of the car and hit a guardrail, said New York State Police Spokesman Trooper AJ Hicks.
Hicks said the spot where the vehicle crashed had a poor line of sight making it difficult for oncoming vehicles to see the accident.
New York State Park Police responded to help as state police worked the first crash, he said.
Park Police used one of its vehicles to shut down a northbound lane. An oncoming car failed to see the closure in time and hit the park police vehicle, Hicks said.
In the meantime, an area fire department was called to assist with traffic, and that vehicle was hit as well, Hicks said.
There were no injuries in any of three crashes, he added.
